Westenergy invests in equipment for a cleaner environment and development of district heating production

Westenergy Oy owns and operates a Waste-to-Energy plant in Mustasaari, close to Vaasa, in Finland. The plant produces electricity and district heating utilizing source-separated, non-recyclable combustible waste as fuel. In order to increase the district heating efficiency and prepare for more stringent EU emission requirements (WI BREF), Westenergy has decided to add a flue gas condensing system. Babcock & Wilcox Vølund AB has been selected as supplier of the installation. With this new flue gas condensing system a more efficient recovery of the heat in the flue gases is obtained as well as further reduction of flue gas emissions, especially hydrochloric acid and sulfur dioxide. B&W Vølund AB’s delivery also includes a new flue gas stack and a water treatment plant.

The flue gas condensing system will be installed in November 2019 and is expected to be operational at the end of 2019.
