The 2009 award winners are Dr. Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka from Tanzania, Enrique Peñalosa, Bogotá, Colombia and Sören Hermansen, Samsö, Denmark. They equally share the award. The award was celebrated for the tenth year on November 24 in Göteborg.
Cities and towns today house half of the world's population. They stand for 75 percent of the total energy consumption and generate 80 percent of all greenhouse gases.
The problems need urgent attention to find long-term stable solutions. The award winners are engaged, locally and globally, in the battle for sustainable development in urban environments and have been leading regional projects resulting in successful, decisive changes. Read the full pressrelease.
