Memory effect

What is "Memory effect"? Dioxin absorption in plastic and adsorption on carbon particles.

Incinerator start-up sequences as well as disturbed operations may cause substantially elevated concentrations of dioxins in the raw gas. The dioxins are in such situations partly absorbed in plastic materials in the gas treatment system.  The "memory effect" means that dioxins can be released from the different plastic materials under normal operating conditions or if the process parameters are changed. As a result, a plant of a certain design will temporarily have dioxin emissions above the limiting values stipulated by the authorities (0.1 ng/Nm3). By using ADIOX® material the captured dioxins/furanes are not released.
